Why these numbers can be checked

  • A figure appears only when the day carries it. A reading is published on the days it clears 30 restaurants and 500 orders; a price index needs 30 matching menu items from 15 restaurants; and a metro is not offered as a geography at all until 30 restaurants sit inside it. Published or withheld.
  • Nothing is estimated. Of the 179,759 cells this index has computed, 145,894 were withheld for want of sample rather than interpolated, smoothed or forecast — a cell below its threshold does not exist here. Outliers and dropped rows.
  • Every figure carries its sample and its date. The number of restaurants behind a reading and the day it describes are printed beside it, on 481 days of record. What this sample is.
  • No restaurant is identifiable. There is no per-store output anywhere on this site and no dollar total for any geography — medians, means, shares and counts only. Geography and metros.

All readings are computed over the set of restaurants live in the KwickEat index on the build date; historical days therefore reflect today's surviving stores, not the stores live on that day.
